Heartland Retirement Center, Black Earth

Community Involvement

From its humble beginnings over 40 years ago (when meetings were held in an old chicken coop) to its nearly 100-strong membership today, the Wisconsin River Sportsmen's Club has grown and developed into an organization that provides services and funding in support of Mazomanie and surrounding communities (complete WRSC history). For example:

  • Supporter of Family Fishing Day at Lake Marion.
  • Donated to Mazomanie Swim Team.
  • Monetary contributions have been made to the Wisconsin Heights Family Services program.
  • Along with The Target Shop (Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin), built/contributed a shelter to the Heartland Retirement Center in Black Earth.
  • Contributed to Town of Merrimac shoreline park development.
  • Patron member of Dane County Conservation League.
  • Supporter of Pheasants Forever.
  • Since 1981, the club has sponsored a hunter safety course every spring.
  • WRSC is a member of Wisconsin's "Adopt-A-Highway" program, covering Highway Y from Highway 78 to the club entrance.
  • The club sponsors Wisconsin Rural Challenge and many area youth athletic programs (e.g. swimming, soccer, softball, wrestling).
  • In the last 20 years, club members have restored Lake Marion (just east of Mazomanie) and have built a shelter and handicapped-accessible fishing ramp.
  • The club has supported the Wisconsin Heights FFA through cash donations and sponsorship of several FFA invitational trap shoots.
  • WRSC donated trigger locks for guns raffled through Dane County's Pheasants Forever.
  • The club has sponsored Mazomanie's Child Safety, Drug Awareness and Crime Prevention Program.
  • An annual contribution is made to Mazomanie's 4th of July fireworks festival.
  • The Wisconsin River Sportsmen's Club was the first to sponsor (in conjunction with RMCF) WOW in local schools, a magazine designed to inform 4th graders about the value of conservation.
  • WRSC members' time and talents are a major force behind the success of Mazomanie's Wild West Days, held every September.
  • The Mazo Mustangs, a local baseball team, is partially sponsored by WRSC.
  • The club has been a major contributor at the Wisconsin Heights Alumni Foundation annual fundraiser.

Some club-sponsored events are open to the public throughout the year. Check the Events page for more information. Any questions can be emailed to WRSC, or call and leave a message on the clubhouse phone at 608.795.4640.
